~~In the above mentioned passage, David said, "One thing I have desired (asked) of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold (gaze at) the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple." Even though he said his desire was only one thing, it was broken into three parts: 1) To dwell in God's house all the days of his life; 2) To behold God's beauty; and 3) To pray to Him! David, like a lot of us had many desires, but he had to prioritize them. Usually, there is always one desire that we as human beings put above all desires. In this day and age, when the enemy has continued to distract the saints and caused us to run after temporal things, it is not surprising that for some, the one thing they desire most is money, or financial stability or position of influence and recognition. For some, it is the fruit of the womb. For some it is healing and health. For some it is a new house, a new car, or a new job or a husband or wife. For some it is to see the good of their children and the list goes on and on. No matter how you look at it, all our desires tend to be mostly for temporal things. God is asking us a very hard question today. "What is your desire?" In David's case, no one had to ask him what he desired most. David clearly stated that he searched high and low, but he could not find anything he wanted more in the world than to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life! Nothing more than to live in the power zone! Amazing, isn't it? God called this man, "a man after His heart." Why not? If you were in God's shoes would you not do the same? If you had a child or loved one whose only desire is to please you and live in your presence, would you not want to give him or her all you have? Take a cue from David! TAKE THE SHORT CUT TODAY!!
David was a very smart and wise man. I am sure he remembered, Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" He must have asked himself, "Why go after one thing, when I can get everything by just seeking after the Lord!" He refused to work hard; he wanted to work smart. Smart is seeking after the kingdom of God and His righteousness and getting everything else in one package; the "combo pack"! Why should he seek after one temporal thing at a time when he could get everything by just seeking God and dwelling in His house? Why not seek after God's face and get all His hand has to offer; all at once!
God is asking us some hard questions today, "What are you seeking after? What are you spending hour after hour crying on to God for? What are you hungry and thirsty for? Are you hungry for recognition and influence? Are you hungry for honor? Are you hungry for the accolades of men?" Seeking after temporal things can be tiring sometimes. Why not just take the "short cut?" Matthew 6:34, says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." In essence, it is saying, if you seek Him, you do not have to worry, fret or be anxious about tomorrow. If you dwell in His house, seek after His kingdom and after His righteousness, all other things shall be added unto you. I mean ALL things. It is the smart and wise thing to do. If you want to be wise and blessed like David and have your prayers answered quickly, take his advice; learn from him. He longed for the Lord. Psalm 42:1-2 says, "As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God....."
It is only when you dwell in His presence that your soul can pant after Him. Ask the Lord to show you how to dwell in His presence. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you more as you dwell in His presence. Ask to know Him deeper. Ask Him to take you higher and deeper in Him. When you dwell in His presence, all the things locked up in your spirit is birthed. As you seek Him, I declare that the Lord will take you to new places. He will give you the gates of your enemy. He will do new things. He will open new doors for you and your family. He will anoint your hands to receive new things. He will anoint your ears to hear new things and your eyes to see new things. You will walk in the path of the destiny He has for you. You will not labor in vain. When others are saying there is a casting down, you will say there is a lifting up. Your head will no longer be bowed. You will live to reap the fruit of your labor. When you seek Him, you will find Him. When you knock, He will answer you speedily. Take the "short cut" and you will never regret it in Jesus' name. AMEN.
