In the above mentioned passage, Joshua went to battle against five (5) Amorite kings who gathered together against the Gibeonites because they had made peace with Joshua and the Israelites. So when the Gibeonites cried and sought for Joshua’s help, God assured him that he should not fear the Amorite kings because He had delivered them into his hands and not one of them would be able to withstand him. What an awesome way to go into battle; winning the battle before it started! So Joshua went against them and defeated them. The Lord hurled hail stone at the ones that fled and the ones that were killed by the stones were more than the ones that died by the sword.
Then Joshua spoke to God in the presence of all of the people and commanded the son to stand still over Gibeon and the moon to stop over the valley of Ajalon. The sun stood still and the moon stopped at his word. The sun did not set until he got his victory over his enemies. Amazingly, the sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day! The sun did not set until God did that which He had promised Joshua he would do. Verse 14 says that there has never been a day like it before or after, when the Lord listened to a human being! God honored Joshua in the presence of Israel and Gibeon! Just imagine the disgrace and humiliation Joshua would have faced if the Lord did not honor his word before the people who looked up to him for their survival? It would have been devastating.
In Genesis 28:15, when Jacob desperately fled from the anger of his brother Esau, he came to a place and slept. While he was sleeping, God said to him in his dream, “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” What an assurance! Imagine the state of Jacob’s mind; running from his brother and going to a land he had never been before. He had to leave his family in a hurry and was unsure of what the future had in store for him. But the comforting words of the God of his fathers Abraham and Isaac came to him in his desperate hour to let him know that He was with Him, He would protect him and would stand by him until there was a manifestation of all He had said He would do in his life.
God was telling Jacob, “It does not matter what it looks like now. I got your back. It does not matter if you left everything and do not know where your next meal is coming from. I have spoken a word over your life and you will not die until everything I have said over your life is fulfilled. I am a faithful God. I will not leave you or forsake you. Even though many have died and have been taken down before they reached their promised land, it shall not be your portion. Even though many have been cut off at the prime of their lives, it shall not be your portion. Your sun will not set until all I have said about you, your children and children’s children comes to pass. You are not alone. I am with you and My presence will go before you every step of the way. I will be your shield and banner and I will protect you from danger. You will not die before your time. My thoughts for you are thoughts of peace and not of evil.” What is that promise in your life that the enemy is fighting? What is the word that hell is fighting against? The devil is a liar! As you read this passage and go along your life’s journey this year, be reassured that your life will not end until God is finished with you. You will not die before your time. You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. Your sun will not set until you have been established in your blessing. Just as God changed the course of nature for Joshua, He will change the course of nature for you. Everything God created will work in your favor and not against you. Laws will change because of you. You will find favor with God and with man. Your destiny will not be aborted. Your allies and foes will see God in action in your life. God will honor you in the presence of friends and foes. God will decorate your life with his glory. You will be celebrated. They will come against you one way and flee seven ways. No weapon on the enemy formed against you will prosper. God will do a new thing in your life and family. You will not weep or mourn over your children. You will go to another level in God this year. God will reverse situations and circumstance at your command. God will use you to do things that have not been done before in your family. God will cause people to see what they haven’t seen before through you. You will not be disappointed. Shame will be far from you. Heaven will support you. All God’s creation will respond to you positively. God’s hand upon your life will bring victory. God’s presence will go with you every step of the way. God’s promises upon Jacob shall be your portion. You will fulfill your purpose in the mighty name of Jesus. AMEN
